Ruuvi Tag Pro doesn't show humidity.

Hi! I have 3 Ruuvi Tags and 1 Ruuvi Tag Pro linked to my cerbo that I monitor via VRM. The 3 normal tags, show everything, but the tag Pro, only shows the temperature. Am I missing any settings here? Can't find anything on Remote Console that I can change.

Backing board material for SmartSolar MPPT?

Hi,

I'm about to install a pair of SmartSolar MPPT 150/60 units for my solar array and wondered if plywood is a suitable backing board material given the operating temperatures of these units? I have my Multiplus-II 48/5000/70-50 mounted on plywood but it doesn't really get that hot and is spaced off the wall somewhat due to the bracket and screw fixings.

I'm not sure exactly how hot the MPPTs get in operation but I've seen suggestions that it can be 70-80C. I'm pretty confident it would take a lot more than this to ignite or even scorch plywood but should I be looking to install a piece of aqua board or similar? Or can I simply install some spacers beneath the fixing points to avoid direct contact between heat sink and wall?

Thanks,

Craig.

Silent Fan mode with total Compensation

Hello everyone,

I am currently testing our ESS, that consists of 3 MP2 3000 24V (3Phase) and that is always connected to the local grid.

My current problem is, that the fan in the Multis are clearly audible at night. I now want to enable the "silent fan" mode at night, but I have a few questions, regading that mode:

On the Victron homepage it just says: "The result is that during invert the product will switch off sooner".

In Offgrid systems, it is obvious to me that this means, the multi will just shut down due to overtemperature. But what happens in a grid tie system? Does it just throttle down and invert less power, getting the rest from the grid? Or does it also just shut down? (This would be kind of dumb...)

Do you know anything more about this mode?

Thanks in advance!

Can I see the Multiplus Internal Temperature?

According to the spec sheet, a Multiplus will de-rate its output when the temperature exceeds 40C. Is there any way to see this is happening? Through VictornConnect? I sometimes see less than full battery charge current, and I suspect this is the cause, but can find no way to confirm.

Orion DC-DC overheating

My Orion Tr Smart 12/12-30 Charger runs hot, and the output current folds back considerably. Anyone else with this problem? When cold, it will output 33A. When hot, it will fold back to 26A or less. Parts of the case may exceed 134dg F, in a cool (60dg F) environment. By adding a 80CFM fan above the fins, the case temperature is lowered by 20 degrees F, and the unit will continuosly output 30A. It would appear that the heat sink is undersized. Comments?

SmartSolar MTTP temp data not matching SmartBattery Sense on Trends

My batteries stopped charing a few days ago. I noticed on the MTTP "Trends" page graph of Battery Temp that is had gone from about 80F to about 30F and the Low Temp Cut-Off kicked in. When I checked trends on my SmartBattery Sense, which is the source for the data according to the VE.Smart networking screen, they do not match. The MTTP temp is on the Status page does not match the current "Trends" page reading either. Please see pics. This kicked in a few days ago all of a sudden. What could be causing this?

Smart Charger Temperature

Hi All :) quick question around the Blue Smart IP22 Charger, So I just bought one and have charged 2x brand new lithium 200amp batteries. Everything working as expected. So I can appreciate that when in bulk mode the device will heat up a bit, however i was able to record upwards of 60 degrees Celsius. It was quite hot to the touch. Is this normal for these devices?

I have other chargers with similar input and they don't get that hot... i would of expected a higher end brand such as Victron not to get that warm.

Cheers

Luke :)

Best way to Supply Temperature Info

I would like to know the most accurate Temperature sensor to use to control my New Smart Solar MPPT either through DVCC , VE Direct or Bluetooth . I have a temperature sensor connected to the Multiplus , another to the Cerbo , both show increments of 1 degree only . I have an identical Sensor of the same type I use on my Old style MPPT that I am about to upgrade and appears to be more detailed and shows increments if 1/10 degree on VRM and controls the MPPT likewise using fractions of a degree rather than a full 1 degree jump each time but i dont know if the data is provided so precisely because it comes from the MPPT or what is provided from the New MPPTs . I plan to install a Smart shunt next month so that will give me another option , so many options ,If anyone could advise me which is the best one to use . The screenshot taken of both at the same time shows the different displays/outputs . Which of the following would be the better and most accurate method .

Temperature sensor from Neg battery post to Cerbo then DVCC to MPPT

Smart Shunt to Cerbo vie VE Direct then DVCC to MPPT

Smart Shunt to MPPT via VE Direct cable

Smart Shunt to MPPT via Bluetooth

Smart Sense to MPPT Bluetooth

Any advice would be very much appreciated

temperature nonsensical values

Between 2022 12 20 05:45 and 2022 12 29 14:31 the reported temperature changed from a stable accurate value of about 10 degc with negligible spread to nonsense values ranging between -20:80 degc with huge spread(changing sample to sample) AND INCIDENCE of nan. it was a real effect with temperature faults reported. it the reverted to normal behaviour. ??? candidate is a bad firmware update with say a units mistake eg float rather than int? ideas

New Multiplus II temperature light when cold

I did read though similar older posts but no solution. New Multiplus II 12/3000/120. Worked for a few hours. Get temperature light and strong fan w/ no warmth in/around unit immediately after turning on, no load, ambient temp about 65F.

This happens when AC-in is the only connection. (AC OUT / DC disconnected). Also when DC to battery is the only connection. (AC IN / AC OUT disconnected). There is no external temp sensor.

Firmware updated. Assuming this is a faulty temp sensor in the unit, but if anyone has any ideas. We are on the road with a new system.

Temperature charging protection LiFePo4

Could anyone explain how the temperature charge protection of a LiFePo4 battery works? Despite the fact that the BMS says that charging has been disabled due to low temperature, the battery is charged. See both pictures.

(For examination purposes I set the minumum temperature on a save level of 8 degrees and checked wether the battery would be charged or not, and it actually did.)

Does “disabled” mean that the charge current is brought to a save level and will be brought back completely for temperatures below zero degrees?

Thanks in advance!

GlobalLink 520 Temperature Limits

Does anyone know the minimum temperature of the GlobalLink 520?

I recently changed out my CerboGX (temperature limit -20 C) with the GlobalLink 520. Using device with SmartSolar 100/30 MPPT (temperature limit -30 C) and SmartShunt (temperature limit -40 C). I will find out this winter whether or not this unit will work all winter in my unheated Alaska location.

The extremely low power consumption (measured at 10 mA) of this setup should survive the winter with flooded lead-acid batteries. With the CerboGX, I had to shut down the loads including CerboGX during -30 C temperature conditions.

Global warming has helped since it has been over 10 years since I have seen -40 C at my location.

Old setup for previous years used industrial rated (-40 C) components for all parts of the system; however, power consumption required me to limit operation to sunny days only.

EasySolar 12/1600 minimum charging temp

The smart solar controller within the EasySolar can have a low temperature charging cutoff set up (I have it set at +3 degC). The Multiplus charger-inverter within the unit does not appear to have the same function - or am I missing a trick?

I don't want to ruin the lithium batteries. The internal BMS is meant to shut off a charging current at 0 degC. The Smart Shunt connected to them was saying the battery temp was -1 degC, and the Multiplus was topping up the batteires.

1/2" NPT Temperature Sensor For Monitoring Water Tank With Cerbo

I would like to have my CerboGX monitor the temperature in my fresh water tank.

The user manual says the “required sensor is ASS000001000 - Temperature Sensor QUA/PMP/Venus GX”, which isn't suited for monitoring the temperature of water in a tank. The manual is not clear about what type of input the Cerbo expects from a sensor. I found temperature sensor probes that would screw directly into one of the 1/2” FNPT ports on my fresh water tank which would be an ideal setup, but before I order them it would be nice to confirm they will work.

BTW - I am installing a tank level sensor on the same tank, and the manual was very clear about the need for a “resistive sensor” and the “Ohm ranges” that the Cerbo expects. The same type of information is not included in the temperature section of the manual?

It looks like the Cerbo works well with LM355 based temperature sensors based on this post -> https://community.victronenergy.com/questions/50901/temp-sensors-for-cerbo-gx.html. Is that a specific requirement, or will other types of sensors work?

Based on a search for “water temperature probe 1/2 fpt”, there appear to be RTD (resistive) sensors like the one below. If the Cerbo temperature sensors work like the level sensors, based on resistance, I might expect this option to work… but I wouldn’t know how to hook up the 3 wires to it? The LM355 appears to be a voltage based device, however, so maybe not this one?

RTD PT100 Temperature Sensor Probe 1/2" NPT - 3 wire
https://www.amazon.com/Temperature-58%C2%B0F-572%C2%BAF-Waterproof-Oil-Proof-Anti-Corrosion/dp/B07KFCJJCS

Then there are sensors that use two wires but this one doesnt really seem to say how it works? It seems like type K are voltage based from other research on them...

Waterproof K Type Thermocouple 1/2" inch Pipe Thread - 2 wire
https://www.amazon.com/Waterproof-Type-Thermocouple-Temperature-Controller/dp/B07DP358BK/

Would either of these temperature probes play nicely with the CerboGX? I might be adventurous enough to try the “build your own” solution provided @ https://community.victronenergy.com/questions/166357/cerbo-gx-coolant-temperature-sensor-recomendations.html… but if there is someone who sells 1/2” FNPT sensors that work with the Cerbo, I’d prefer to just buy one.

Cerbo GX Celsius to Fahrenheit Issues

I know that it is ridiculous that we still use Fahrenheit in the US and the rest of the world uses Celsius. That said, there seems to be at least some provision from Victron that allows this to be switched and I would like to figure out how to do it. I have switched it everywhere that I think I can but still have mixed results. The VRM (mostly) works in displaying F over C but even then, there are bugs it seems. You'll notice that my sensor "Inside Temperature" is in F so that's good:

However, if I got to the advanced tab, sometimes it's in F and sometimes it's in C. Note that the Shunt Temperature Sensor is in F but the Battery Summary is really in C and just appends the F after the Celsius value. What's even stranger, if I wait 10 or 15 minutes, the Fahrenheit value will magically appear in the Battery Summary. Go back to the Dashboard and then back to Advanced and it shows the Celsius value again and you have to wait for 10 minutes for it to change:

Finally, I can't for the life of me get the console to show it correctly ever. This is the most bothersome for sure. Since most of the time I won't have internet access, I installed the rather pricey GX Touch 50 to display what is going on at a glance. I was planning on adding sensors for my fridge and freezer after adding the Victron Energy Temperature Sensor for GX Devices for ambient inside temperature as well. However, I simply can't get Fahrenheit to display on either the remote console from VRM or the actual GX Touch 50 so I'm holding off on that for now. Intuitively, I would think that you would select the temperature sensor from the device list and change it in the setup as shown but there is no provision for that.

There is a provision in the app shown here (this is an older screen shot, I am running the v5.41 and still having the same issue):

I've searched this forum, the Facebook forum, called tech support at a US dealer and I simply can't figure out how to get F displayed on the Touch GX. Is this simply not a feature for the Touch GX? Is Fahrenheit only available in the VRM? At a minimum, I think there is a bug in the VRM as shown above with the Celsius value stamped with an F after it in the Battery Summary. I've been really satisfied with all of my Victron components otherwise. I have to imagine that there is a way to show Fahrenheit on the Touch GX though. I can't be the only person on the planet with this issue so my guess is that it's me! If anyone can provide step by step here, that would be amazing! Thank you!
