configuration Multiplus 24/3000/70

Hi,

We have deployed two solar trackers with different solar panel technologies installed. Each technology is attached to a MPPT150/35 or 250/60 charge controller. A set of 2x4 Hoppecke batteries in parallel is loaded by the current coming from the charge controllers. The batteries are then connected to the inverter.

As long as the Multiplus is not connected to the grid it works fine. The problem comes when I do connect the Multiplus to the grid. The grid charges the batteries and stops the load from the charge controllesr, even if the batteries are fully loaded.

My question is: is there any specific configuration to enter in the Multiplus via VEConfigure3, such that the Multiplus switch to the grid for a low charge of the batteries and switch back to batteries when those reach a min load?

Many thanks for your help

Which old Multiplus are compatible with MK3-USB

Hi,

I just bought an older Multiplus Compact 12/800/35-16. Before I buy the rather expensive MK3-USB (VE.Bus to USB) Interface I'd like to know if my Multiplus can connect to the computer, because I heard, that with old models it isn't posible.

That's the lable. Anyone able to answer my question?

Thanks a lot,

Can I connect more than one BMS to the Venus GX?

I'm trying to connect 2 batteries from 2 different suppliers

  1. A pylontech battery with a builtin BMS that connects directly to the Venus GX https://www.victronenergy.com/live/battery_compatibility:pylontech_phantom
  2. An additional battery with a separate BMS that can also connect to the Venus GX

Can I connect these 2 batteries (through their individual BMSes) at the same time to the Venus GX?

How does the Venus GX manage 2 BMS inputs?

Problem with connecting to Multiplus 12/3000/120 with MK3-USB using VE Configure 3

Hello everybody,

I connected to my Victron Multiplus 12/3000 via Windows 10 PC and MK3-USB interface with VE Configure 3 and only made adjustments (absorption voltage, charging curve) on the "Charger" tab. Then I sent these settings to the Multiplus and saved them. So far so good.

After this I did chose the "Show Panel" option from the "Target" menu. The panel appeared briefly, then the connection to the multiplus was broken.

Since then it is no longer possible to establish a connection to the Multiplus via PC and MK3 USB interface with VEConfig. During the connection establishment (bar runs through) the process aborts every time and my Multiplus switches off. I can switch the Multiplus on again by using the Cerbo GX console or VictronConnect App with Bluetooth. After switching on, the input current limit is always set to 3 A (normally set to 16 A).

With the VictronConnect software, the Multiplus can be easily reached via Bluetooth as well as via PC and MK3-USB interface. The Multiplus also works flawlessly.

Does anyone have an idea how to solve the problem?

Greetings
Matthias

By the way:
A similar phenomenon I had before, when I first started up the Multiplus months ago. Back then I tried around and activated the AES search mode. (with the current problem described above concearning AES mode nothing was changed.) Immediately after activation, the connection was broken and I could no longer establish a connection. At that time I canceled the setting via VictronConnect (PC and MK3-USB interface), then it worked again.

Hello, could you please send me grid code password. I tried to change to ESS and mistakenly choose germany grid and now can not change without password. Multiplus shows stone error and blinks. I could only do update of firmware to make it work. But there factory preset and no new setting works. Error show up again if I try to set new values.

Additionally i would glad if you let me know best way how to set up my easy solar which is newly connected to grid to prioritize solar energy. I do not have venus or GX panel. Just BMV batery monitor. Thank you for help. David

Ignore AC and DVCC

I have recently installed solar panels on my motoryacht. I am now looking for the most economical use of the solar panels, also in order to reduce the cost of shore power. The electrical system has mainly Victron components, except the panels and battery: Quattro 8000/200, Venus GX, MPPT 100/30, 720 Ah tubular plate batteries and 2 x LG Neon R 370 Wp panels, latest firmwares.

I have studied all the manuals and looked for answers on the community site. Although I see similar setups, I still do not have the ultimate answer on how to use the panels the most economical, either by using Ignore AC, DVCC, lower float voltage or a combination of these.

I fully understand how Ignore AC in VEConfigure works and have now set it up according to below screenshot:

I have been to the yacht today and have tested it with several loads. When using heavy load, the Quattro will deliver the power instead of drawing it from the battery, so it does not unnecessarily drain too much, which would take forever for the panels to charge back into the battery. There is a certain amount of equipment that draws about average 200 W, so in a day I will loose 4.8 kW. On sunny days the panels will charge with about 4.8-5.1 kW. So on cloudy days and near winter time the batteries will slowly deplete and when voltage reaches 23.5 V, the Quattro will kick in and charge (with max 100 A) up to when bulk is finished (85 % SOC). I might change that in wintertime to when absorption is finished, as the batteries need to be fully charged every once in a while. So far so good.

The manual of the MPPT states that the DVCC function will result in the MPPT being an active controller in the system. "For systems with lead batteries, DVCC offers features such as a
configurable system wide charge current limit, where the GX device actively limits the
inverter/charger in case the solar chargers are already charging at full power". I have tried the DVCC feature (without Ignore AC) with a setting of 100 A for max charging and shared voltage, current and temperature sense.
I have observed the behaviour of MPPT and Quattro for a long time and my impression is that the MPPT does not always do what it should. I can see the Quattro charging with high amps and the panels with relatively low. When I switch off the shore power, the panels immediately jump to a much higher charge, so the panels are under DVCC not used with maximum capacity. I would also expect that when batteries are full and loads are low, while panels can produce more than the load, that the Quattro might stop charging all together.

An expert advised to lower the float voltage of the Quattro with 1 V, After lowering that setting to 26.6 V, I saw this morning at around 08.00 hrs that the Quattro stopped charging. Not completely sure why?

I have gathered my thoughts and I think I have to options: 1) use Ignore AC and 2) use DVCC. With option 1, it will deplete the battery more and I think the panels are used most economical, but I need to make sure the batteries are getting a full charge every once in a while. With option 2, the batteries are kept a full charge (100 %)., but I have the impression the panels are not used to the max and the Quattro will only stop charging when the voltage of the batteries is higher than the 26.6 V. Which brings me to the question do I also need to lower the absorption voltage in order for the Quattro to stop charging when in absorption fase in order to get the max charge out of the panels? I find lowering these setting in contradiction to the DVCC manual: "Limit charge current. This is a user-configurable maximum charge current setting. It works across the whole system. MPPT Solar Chargers are automatically prioritized over the mains/generator".

By the way: I use the AC out 2 of the Quattro for heavy users, with the intention that when I loose shore power (while sailing [do you actually sail, drive or operate a motor yacht?]), it automatically switches of the heavy consumers and I will not unnecessarily deplete the batteries. With Ignore AC while still in the harbour, I loose the heavy consumers as the Quattro needs AC on either AC In 1 (generator) or AC In 2 (shore power). I probably have to rewire the heavy consumers to AC In 1.

My questions:

1) Why does the Quattro stop charging when lowering float voltage when panels are charging?

2) Do I need to lower the float voltage in order for the Quattro to stop charging while enabled DVCC?

3) Why is DVCC not using maximum available charge from the solar panels?

4) Do I also need to lower the absorption voltage while DVCC enabled so the Quattro stops charging in absorption fase to maximum use the charge of the panels

5) Can I, or should I, use DVCC in combination with Ignore AC?

Any comment, suggestions, answers are welcome.

I have also published about the installation of the electrical system and the solar panels on my weblog (in Dutch, but has Google translate button): www.xanthiona.com .

Is it possible to change the delay which it takes for AC out 2 to go live?

I have contactors which are being driven by AC OUT 2, but when the grid or generator input is live (after a mains failure or return) it takes around 2 and a half minutes for AC2 to go live, and hence close the contactors... Is there any way to change this to 30 seconds for instance?

Solar primary source and AC as backup with MultiPlus

Hi to everyone. We have problems configuring the MultiPlus using the VE Config.

We want the MultiPlus use the solar power from the batteries and when SOC drops below certain percentage (50%), draw power from the AC-in. Then, when batterias are charged, disconnect the AC-in and get back to solar power as a primary source.

We have been configuring it using the VE Config and three assitant (2 programmable relay and a use of the general flag), but either way the MultiPlus still are using the power from AC-in ("mains on" light on). We have gone to configure it to load the configuration, the MultiPlus get restarted but it keeps the mains on, then we try again reloading the configuration and the MultiPlus change to inverter mode, but the client call us phew days later because the MultiPlus change back to "mains on".

We don't know if the assitants what we are using are right. If you need to know, the installed system use a BlueSolar controller to charge the batteries with 9 photovoltaic panels. There is no communication device like a Color Control or VBM between the MultiPlus and the BlueSolar.

We had been attached the settings of each assistant. The internal battery monitor is actived in the MultiPlus and we have been careful sending the configurations to the MultiPlus.

Any help wil be appreciate!

Battery capacity settings

In VE Configure 3, when you enable battery monitor, you need to supply your "Battery capacity" in Ah. If you have a 48V system and 4 x 200Ah batteries do you set it as 200Ah or the sum of all the batteries (800Ah) ? I have checked the manual and posts and cannot find absolute clarity on this.

Many thanks.

Multiplus 12/800 VE Config charge settings for LiFePo4

Hello,

I noticed there are couple similar question but could not find complete answer.

I have a 12V, 190Ah, third-party LiFePo4 that I am looking to charge with a Multiplus but I am lost with setting the charge parameters in VE Config.

Battery specs call for "At room temperature, charged to 3.65V at a constant current of 52.8A, and then charge continuously with constant voltage of 3.65V until the current was not more than 8.8±0.5A";

This means:

  • Constant Current CC charge at (my case/Multiplus limitation) 30A or max.35A until it hits 14.6V (3.65V per cell); then
  • Constant Voltage CV charge at 14.6 until charge current drops to 8.8A;

Reading another answer on this forum, I understood the setup I could use is to set the Bulk charge current to 30A followed by Absorption at 14.6V for defined time followed by very low Float (say 12V, 3V per cell) to have zero current.

Question is how can I make Absorption at 14.6V to switch to Float when charge current is 8.8A ? INSTEAD or having a defined time period for Absorption ?

Thank you very much for help

When the battery type LiFePO4 is chosen in VE Config 3 Charger tab, battery type, various preset Voltage values are entered and the following:

Storage mode = unchecked, lithium Battery = checked, Charge is set to fixed, temp compensation is disabled.

if I change one of the voltages (say float from 13.5V to 13.4V) the Battery Type is removed from the selection panel. The Lithium batteries check box stays ticked.

Can anyone tell me if the other presets (e.g.fixed charge curve, storage mode disabled, etc) stay in place?

I cant find anywhere to look to confirm what other, than my voltage adjustment , has or has not changed.

Virtual Phoenix Panel not working with Quattro 24/5000/120

I am running a Quattro 24/5000/120 with software version 2648413 as reported by VE Configure 3 90.04.217 and am having trouble using the Virtual Phoenix Panel (Phoenix Multi Control) that is in the VE Configure 3 software. The rest of the system consists of Victron Smart Lithium batteries, VE.BUS BMS, BlueSolar MPPT 150/35 and a BMV-712.

When I try to turn the Quattro off using the Virtual Phoenix Panel, for example, it will turn off the inverter for about 3 seconds and then the Quattro will turn itself right back on. Following the manual, I've tried to physically use the switch on the Quattro to turn it off/on while the Virtual Phoenix Panel is loaded the first time, per the instructions, but it doesn't change the Viritual Phoenix Panel behavior.

My desire is to be able to turn off the inverter at night as we don't need 230v AC at night and would rather not waste the 30w or so the Quattro draws at idle.

Am I doing something wrong or does the Virtual Phoenix Panel not work with the Quattro?

Venus GX no longer recognises Multiplus II after programming it with VEConfigure

Hi

I am having problems with the Venus GX (firmware v2.33) not recognising my MultiPlus-II 48/3000/35-32 (hw rev 08, firmware 462) inverters after I make any programming change to them using VEConfigure. (Venus console shows "Connected" as "No" under "Device List > MultiPlus-II 48/3000/35-32 > Device")

Here is my test procedure to demonstrate the problem:

1. Take a single inverter and configure it as a 1 ph phase system using VE.Bus System Configurator (v 90.09.141) using a MK3-USB. Don't do any programming using VEConfigure.

2. Disconnect the inverter from the MK3-USB and connect it to the Venus GX. The Venus GX will recognise the VE.Bus system (Connected shows Yes)

3. Reconnect the inverter to the MK3 and use VEConfigure to change any setting (I used "Overruled by remote" tickbox on the General tab). Click Send settings and send modified settings to the device.

4. When I now connect the inverter to the Venus GX it will no longer recognise the inverter (Connected stays No) even after selecting Redetect System from the Advanced menu, or rebooting the Venus. THIS IS MY PROBLEM. Possible bug?

5. REconnect the inverter to the MK3-UBS and send the grid configuration to inverter again.

6. Connect the inverter back to the Venus GX. The Venus GX now correctly recognises the Multiplus II again (Connected shows Yes).

This seems to be a similar problem to MultiPlus II 48/5000/70 only shows "VE.bus Device" on Venus and VRM

Another oddity I encountered is I cannot change phase masters. If I try and designate a new phase master using VE.Bus System Configurator the Venus will no longer detect the inverters (Connected alternates between Yes and No). If I change the config to make my original (first config using VE.Bus System Configurator) phase master the master again the system detects just fine in the Venus GX.

Any ideas?

VEConfigure3 Improvement Suggestions

I upgraded a 2-wire Installation with a bypass switch (hager SFT340 3P 40A) plus I upgraded the Victron Quattro to the 465 Firmware.

The Quattro is not accepting grid anymore, and I do not know why. VEConfigure3 is not helpful.

While it shows AC-In red, AC-In freq also red and the timer to reconnect not moving. It really does not show the reason why it is not accepting AC-In. Contrary to what the Firmware changelog promised.

I would have expected something like "outside frequency/voltage bounds" or something. Just showing them in red is really not telling "why".

Needless to say, AC-In2 (where grid is connected), has its ~230V

---

So the Quattro is inverting from battery, some 200W, it's practically idle. After 5 minutes, the fans go on, and remain on. The Quattro is cold as ice, but the fans remain on.

Here it would also be great if VEConfigure3 would be more verbose, as in showing that the fans are on and why. As for the why, I can only assume fans go on because temperature or whatever, so VEConfigure could show some temperature measurements within the Quattro.

At least it would help with said "why".

---

VEConfigure3 shows "AUX relay 0" in the small status box on the left side. Being a computer scientist, I know there is usually no such thing as negative information (-10bit), but this almost qualifies.

"AUX relay 0"... what AUX relay? K1? K2? AUX1? AUX2?

Why doesn't it show what "it thinks" the status of AUX1 and AUX2 is? That would really be of use. And actually it has been asked here before - and remained unanswered.

---

Oh well, so I disconnected the 2-wire BMS from AUX1 and AUX2. Mind you: there is NO Assistant running in the Quattro, No VS, no nothing.

Suddenly the Quattro started to accept AC-In2 Grid. I am completely puzzled and in awe.

And the last piece of software on this planet to help me understand why is VEConfigure3.
