Fronius PV peak power Limited

We installed 2 Victron 24/3000 in parallel and a Fronius Primo 3.6 connected in the output of the multis.

First we configured with ESS and the fronius was working fine. It reached 3.6kW.

We had some problems with the grid and we had to quit using ESS. We had to configure the PV inverter support Assistant instead.

The AC side worked as we want, unfortunately, we realized that the PV production is limited to 2286kWp for some reason.

This limit is when charging batteries? The 24/3000 can only charge at 70A, 70x24= 1680w.

1680x2 = 3360w max.

Did you change the default charge current? By default its set to 75%, so 52-53A. x2 this is 2496w.

Basically around the limit you are seeing. If there is AC load on the system then the fronius will be able to produce more. The reason it was able to in ESS with the grid connected is the excess went to the grid.

There is no relationship between the charging power, AC out power and PV power limit.

It can be charging, dischargin, AC output can be 100W, 2000W, etc.

When the fronius reaches 2286W, it limits.

Update:

I don´t know what could be wrong with the PV inverter assistant but I couldn´t make it work.

Finally we reinstalled the ESS assistant and the Fronius is generating full power now.

Problem solved.

I just had a thought about this.

What frequency are you using? The 50hz fronius settings (from fronius) are 51 start, 52.7 minimum and 53 disconnect.

Also you did change the grid code in the fronius to MG50/60 right?

System frequency: 60Hz.

Victron 61Hz, 62.7Hz, 63Hz (Same configuration in PV inverter or ESS assistant)

Fronius MG60

Hi Fernando,

I suspect your "problem" with the PV inverter assistant is simply the way it is designed to work when system is not connected to the grid. From the Victron documentation:

To prevent DC and AC voltage overshoots because of varying solar irradiance and/or load fluctuations, it will limit the charge current already before battery voltage has rised up to the absorption voltage. It will derate the maximum charge current from 100% at 13.5 / 27 / 54V to 10% at 14.4 / 28.8 / 57.6V. These thresholds are not related to the configured absorption voltage.

So presumably your battery voltage was above 54V at the time the limiting of PV output was happening. As I understand it ESS (with the PV assistant included) will do exactly the same if grid is not connected.

Cheers, Leslie

Hi Leslieanne

I think this is not the case. The PV limit at 2286W happens when the batteries are charging, discharging, 48V, 57.6V, SOC 30%, SOC 100%, etc. It doen't matter. It always limits at 2286.

(You can check it in the screenshots).

Because I couldn't solved it with the PV inverter assistant, I had to reinstall the ESS using the same configuration values.

Now the PV generates 3600W (no limit).

Oh well, so much for that theory! Hopefully someone from Victron will come along with an explanation.....

But at least you have it behaving under ESS.
