Power assist

Hi can someone please explain power assist and what settings I need to choose on my dial. We have a multiplus inverter charger 12/1600/70, Phoenix multi control, 960watts of solar and a 675amp battery bank. When running a honda eu20i generator as shore power to the boat what setting do I need on the dial and also when running a kipor 6.5kv generator as shore power to the what do I need to set the dial at. I presume the marks 1 to 16 represent amps. Thank you

Hi Les. Power Assist, in Victron's own blurb "allows the MultiPlus to supplement the capacity of the alternative source. Where peak power is so often required only for a limited period, the MultiPlus will make sure that insufficient shore or generator power is immediately compensated for by power from the battery. When the load reduces, the spare power is used to recharge the battery."

Often it's usefulness (depending on what you're doing with your ac loads) may be confined to just handling power spikes, but it's good to have. It should be enabled by default.

Presuming your system is 230V, your Multi has a 16A transfer switch, and it's limit *should* be up there somewhere. 16A won't worry your Kipor, but the Honda would baulk at such a load. Maybe start with '5' on the dial and see how the Honda deals with that.

Bear in mind your charger would peak out at ~1000W max, so depends on your ac loads where you end up.

This make sense?

Unfortunately you can't enable Power Assist from a Multi Control Panel.

To enable/disable power assist you need a MK3 to USB interface;

https://www.victronenergy.com/accessories/interface-mk3-usb

Then use either VE.Configure and a laptop - Power Assist is in the 'Inverter Settings' tab;

https://docs.victronenergy.com/veconfigure.html#inverter-settings

Or you can now also use VictronConnect and a laptop, tablet or phone;

https://docs.victronenergy.com/victronconnect-vebus.html#inverter

Note that usually this is something done by an installer or dealer, rather than an end user.

This document also explains about the Power Assist functionality;
