Battery not Charging

We have wired up a 3phase using 5KVA with a Freedom Won LiTE 20/16 battery. Everything is working perfectly from the measurement to the AC in.

When the AC IN is connected (we have not connected the solar yet) the battery is not charging,

How can I make it charge? Can anyone assist me with this?

Change the ESS mode to keep charged.

Using a self-consumption mode without PV isn't going to work so well.

From the image you have a grid meter, see point 1 below.

There are common causes for passthru, referenced here in the ESS guide:

https://www.victronenergy.com/media/pg/Energy_Storage_System/en/faq.html#UUID-169dbd85-4b6f-814b-33c2-9fa77a6973d2_section-idm4628123204859232885885561444

In ESS, the conditions for the VE.Bus system to be in pass-through (ve.bus state: passthru) are:

  1. When the GX device is no longer receiving data from the grid meter. Note that this is only for systems that are configured to have an external grid meter. See the Settings → ESS → Control without grid-meter setting.

  2. Systems with a canbus-connected lithium system: when the GX device is no longer receiving information from the battery, via the CAN-bus.

  3. When charging the battery is not allowed (BMS max charge current = 0A, or max charge power = 0W) and there is excess PV power.

  4. When discharge is not allowed -and- loads on AC-Out force the Multi/Quattro to exceed the AC input current limit. Reasons for not allowing discharge: BMS blocks discharge (DCL=0), or battery SoC level is below the 'minimum SOC' setting in ESS, when SoC is at least 3% above the set level, discharge is allowed again.

  5. A grid code is in use that requires the enabling of battery discharging by aux-inputs. Check the used grid-code in VEConfigure and compare with the electrical signals provided to the Inverter/charger in its AUX inputs.

  6. The Loss of Mains detection (LOM) causes issues, often in combination with a high impedance connectivity to the utility. For details see VEConfigure: grid codes & loss of mains detection.

If none of these help, it is worth stepping through the FW setup guide just to double-check something wasn't missed.

@nickdb Thank you so much it's working now. In our case it was the first option we had to fix.

As soon as it started charging it started drawing 14 amp per Line, the fans started over working cause it was charging from all lines. I think it's why the DC cables started getting warm (Note; it's a 3phase system)

after adjusting it to about 5amps the fans stopped working (the temp cooled down)

My next Question is what is the "DC Power" block represent and must the neutral of the battery be connected to ground as well, we have two conflicting opinions. (if you need my wiring diagram I can show you)

Do you have DC devices? If not, disable the "has DC system" option in the GX settings -> system setup.

Battery -'ve shouldn't be grounded, but the case should.

You are welcome to attach your diagram.

@nickdb Thank you. We made the changes and it just changed to passthru but nothing happened (please see the attached image)

@Lindsay assuming you are using the system as a ESS, have you set up a ESS assistant in VE configure? What position do you have the switch under the unit on the right hand side? What position you you have the manual control in (see below image)?
