Why has the VRM/Advanced widgets area been completely locked for non admin users?

I am desperately searching for a possibility to de/activate and arrange the widgets of interest for me, but there is no way to delete obsolete/replaced devices which stay empty, or add interesting widgets (sensor data etc.) and to arrange or size them.

Last year moving and sizing was still possible (see exampmle chart where i compared power in/out with external measurements of temperature and extensive fan-noise of my Multiplus II).

In the meantime this last freedom was removed - i dont want to bother my installer with orders what to modify.

I understand that locking only for admins has the purpose to prevent dangerous manipulation of device settings, but i can't believe that changing the widgets could cause dangerous states.

That should be changed/improved urgently!

Ultimately you paid for the system so you are entitled to have access to it.

Installers may restrict access initially so they system can be shown to be stable and isn't tinkered with.

Just speak to whoever installed it and get them to enable full access.

Hi @solarbone,

Thanks for the request, and thanks to Alexandra for explaining the situation.

We are working on a middle ground solution to hopefully accomodate both end-user & installer needs with regards to the advanced widget panel.

Sorry to say it is not an urgent priority for that team, but it is now on their task list.

Because the admin usually has it set up how they want it. Some systems have temporary users who change alot as well, you dont want them messing with things. (And often there are settings they dont want changed as it can damage batteries etc and admon opens up all that). it is also like a cellphone set up how you like it (as you know through your frustration) shows the information they are interested in and use for monitoring and troubleshooting. If there is obsolete stuff there, then it means they aren't keeping a close eye on the site and should hand over some more control to you so you can take care of a few more things.

You should be able to ask your installer (since it is your equipment) for admin access. As long as you don't go changing settings and causing issues. That way you wont have to bother them.

We have a mix of clients, ones who want to know more and are capable and ones who don't understand want to know more but fiddle with stuff causing issues. Some have full access some do not.

@Alexandra - thank you very much for your quick response, which essentially confirms my thoughts. The point is: I have not the impression that the admin is able set it up how he wants and to hand over only some more control (in this case, settings that have no effect on the function and safety of the system). It appears to be an "all or nothing" transfer of control. As already described, the rights under "Advanced" have obviously been additionally restricted since last year, which can hardly be logically justified.

What I am in favor of is releasing the access rights specifically in the "Advanced - selection and arrangement of the widgets" area or enabling the administrator to set options for releasing such rights graded according to the level of danger/safety instead of "all or nothing".

Presumably, the main participants in this forum are people who have set up systems for themselves or others as admins and are therefore not affected by this unpleasant restriction, which is why this is hardly discussed here. But there are certainly many users and customers for whom this represents a significant restriction in comfort.

To further explain my situation: Since I myself have decades of experience in planning and setting up machines and systems, the initial idea was to set up the solar system myself. However, since I rely on the specialist knowledge of those who deal with it on a daily basis, I looked for a company that could set up the solar system based on my ideas and specifically the desire to equip it with Victron devices. Even if this was before the energy crisis, there was hardly a supplier, only one company (almost on the other side of the country), could and wanted to build the system but is now under enormous demand pressure, which is why I don't want to stress about such "trivial things".
