Lynx Smart BMS when to use versus other BMS models

The price of the Lynx Smart BMS is significantly higher that other Victron BMS models. Which applications make this most suitable? I can see the Lynx has a built in shunt that avoids that cost, does it also act as a Smart Battery Protector or is this still needed?

Hi @MartinS,

with the Lynx Smart BMS you don't need a Battery Protector for chargers like Victron MultiPlus or Victron MPPT. It may be different when you're using non Victron chargers.

Also no Battery Protect needed for your loads because the BMS has a built in contactor, which will open on low battery/cell voltage.

Thanks Stefanie, please can you then elaborate why then then do all the schematics for the Lynx show a Smart Battery Protect on the load side?

Unfortunately I can't.

But there may be several reason ie. chargers that are not controlled (yet) directly by the BMS via the GX device or different load branches where you want to disconnect one of the branches for service or other reason (Battery Protect used as a switch).

AFAIK there will be an addition to the manual in regards to Battery Protects, when to use and when not. And probably also a change/addition to the schematics.
