Orion-Tr Smart Isolated 12/12 30 and ve.bus BMS

Hey,

I've got an Orion-Tr Smart Isolated 12/12 30 and ve.bus BMS. I'm using the Orion to charge my LiPO4's via my Sprinter's alternator.

I've got a small issue I'm hoping I can get some help with. I'd like to control the Orion's charge state in two ways. Engine ignition and BMS charge disconnect (for battery temp protection). Page 7 of the Orion's manual has a diagram showing how to hook up the BMS in conjunction with an ignition switch, but there's conflicting information. The close up in the diagram and overview are opposite.

Image below. Which is correct? Left or right diagram? BMS charge disconnect into L or H?

The BMS should be connected to the H Pin as in the detailed diagram. The l Pin connected to the ignition to disable the engine detection override and force the charger on.

Please double check however the manual you are using. Your topic is referring to the Isolated version, but the diagram is from the non-isolated version.

The isolated version has this

If you are using the isolated version you will also need an Orion-Tr DC-DC Charger Isolated remote cable

Thanks bathnm. Did not realize I was looking at the wrong manual.

I looked through the new manual and unfortunately still can’t figure out how to do what I want.

Basically I want the Orion to charge my LiPO4 bank if the engine is running AND the BMS says it’s ok. From what I can tell, the BMS connection overrides engine state and will drain my starter battery.

Am I misunderstanding something?

have you found a way to turn off the orion with the BMS? I have the exact same issue...
