Using a 230V Generator with a 120V Quattro

Hello,

We have a Quattro 5K 120V AC, connected to our 48V DC system.

Is it possible to use a Genset with 230V AC with such inverter/charger or it needs only a 120V AC ?!

It would be possible if you use an Autotransformer at the output of the generator.

A 120v Quattro will only work with 120v input

A 230v Quattro will only work with a 230v input

so no you cant mix

Thanks for the feedback,

but in the Auto-transformer datasheet if is always used on the AC out, is it a common practice to use it on the AC in that case?

An autotransformer does step up or step down. It is not concerned what it is connected to. Those examples are demonstrating the various configurations that are possible to get the most out of an inverter when there are unbalanced loads.

An autotransformer will step down generator Voltage to 120V.
I don't know how your N-E (MEN) bond is arranged from the generator, so have your electrician study the datasheet and inspect your current system to ensure compatability.

WKirby, good idea

the auto transformer will work both ways

230 to 120 or 120 to 230

keep in mind that the Hz will stay the same so both the gen and the multi must be the same Hz

Thanks, of course regarding the Frequency this would be Sync between both. in this case, 60 HZ

You'll have to set the frequency of the Quattro to the correct one (50/60)

How is your generator wired into your system? My generator is wired for both 240v and 120v per the generator manuals below:

I have the multiplus 3k connected between L0 and L1, like a split phase output of the generator. There are other loads on L1-L2 and L0-L2. Its not perfectly balanced and will have return current on L0 (neutral). Works fine. The multiplus came connected this way from the marine manufacturer.
