Ssmart sense and Smart shunt.

Q1,

When I install the Smart Battery Sense can I put the negative to the "system minus" side of the Victron Smartshunt 500amp with all the other negatives on a busbar? OR does it need to be attached directly to the battery terminal?

Q2.

Does the positive need to go to the directly to the battery terminal or can it go to a positve busbar?

Cheers

Peter

Question for you... why do you want a SmartShunt and a Smart Battery Sense in the same system? The SmartShunt can do everything the Smart Battery Sense can do + more, so its not a good idea to have both connected at the same time.

But in relation to the connections - the voltage readings will be slightly more accurate when the leads are connected directly to the battery terminals, but this is not always practical, so if you have large gauge/high quality cable and bus bars (and if the cable length between the batteries and bus bars is kept short) then it's perfectly acceptable to terminate on the bus bar.

The exception comes when you have a combined temperature sensor and positive lead for the SmartShunt (or a BMV), as that must be mounted directly to the positive battery terminal in order to accurately measure the battery temperature.
