Venus GX hangs on boot - stage 3 - How to solve?

Hello,

since november I got no values from my venus GX in VRM portal. Yesterday I visit my weekend home, where the venux GX is installed.

I can not connect to the device any more. I saw that the Venux GX hangs on stage 3 in the boot process (green led ligths up permanently. There is no WiFi and not Ethernet access posible.

Is there a procedure to flash the device new?

Or what can I do to solve this?

Regards,
Rainer

Hi @RainerWoll

You can try this procedure:

https://www.victronenergy.com/live/ccgx:firmware_updating_pre_v2_00

if that doesn't help, please contact your dealer for a replacement.

Hi Rainer,

not sure if this is of any help, but as a first step you could try to factory reset factory reset network settings and then keep fingers crossed that it will start up.

AFAIK there is no way for the Venus GX to boot from a flash device like USB or SD card.

Sorry to hear. Not sure if the updating procedure mentioned by Daniel will work for you (because you have a Venus GX and not the CCGX), but you could give it a try. Else I also think that that the unit must be replaced.

The venux is running now. I have found the flash procedure on the victron developer site: https://github.com/victronenergy/venus/wiki/bbb-user-instructions

Thanks for your help.

Good find! Didn't know about it because I don't own a GX device (RasPi here).
Thanks

Oh, do you have VE.Bus or VE.Direct Devices on the RasPi?

Both. Couple of Smart MPPT's and a MultiPlus. But I'm going to swap the Pi for a Cerbo GX as soon as it becomes available.

Can you point me to some more information how to connect VE devices to the RasPi?

Provided you're able to set up a RasPi with Venus OS, this is pretty much the same as with the real GX. Simply hook up your VE.Direct devices to the PI USB ports using a VE.Direct to USB cable. The MultiPlus connects the same way using the MK3-USB dongle.
Then configure settings like you would do with a GX.

If you're not familiar with setting up a RasPi with Venus OS, here is where you have to start reading: https://github.com/victronenergy/venus/wiki/raspberrypi-install-venus-image
