How to charge lithium battery at freezing temperature?

Hi everyone, I am not an expert in battery. I would like to know that is a necessary charge battery at below 0℃? Cause I find a product that provide chargeable battery at cold environment: https://www.grepow.com/page/low-temperature-battery.html

Is that work? However, how can battery achieve low-temp charge?

The issue with charging at at below freezing is due purely to battery chemistry. Most Li chemistries on the market are not rated for this and their datasheets reflect that.

On your link, the 2nd graph to the right is indicative of the general issue that Li chemistries suffer at cycling (esp charging) at low temp. If this is for a commercial/critical application you may want to do your own qualification testing and enquire into manufacturing QA to ensure that your lifecycle expectations are met. Don't make your decisions purely from vendor supplied graphs on their websites.

If its a one-off or diy application then I agree with Tom, change the environmental conditions rather than choosing a specialised Li chemistry.

You will damage any Li Ion battery if you attempt to charge it below freezing. You can discharge the battery below freezing. Li Ion have an optimum use temp at about 65 deg F.

You will need to warm your batteries to about 45 deg F before you charge them. Place a heat blankets on them with a thermostat.

Remember that it depends on the cell chemistry. In the nordic countries we charge Our Electric vehicles even if we have several degrees below freezing! But we are more careful then With very fast charging. So if Your lithiumion battery cells come from an Electric car, you can probably charge even in Cold weather. But of course, you have to check in a datasheet. (For example: The cells I use in my battery package can be charged With 0,5C when temperature is -10 (minus ten) degrees celcius.

Interesting. Is there a range of these low temp batteries from large number of different vendors or are there specific brands that perform with a reasonably large cycle count?
