using a isolated for non isolated system

If I have an isolated unit can I use it non isolated. In other words tie the 2 negatives to the common ground

thanks I tried this on another brand unit and it would not work. I will order one and keep everyone posted. If this is the case I am not sure why they make non isolated ones. weird

From what I have seen and installed before, I cannot see a reason that it shouldn't work.
