Charging lithium to 100%

Following on from this post:

https://community.victronenergy.com/questions/4251/charging-lithium-to-100-soc.html

One user says they only charge their LFPs to 3.4V/cell whereas 3.6V/cell is required for 100%.

Is it not necessary (or advisable) to charge to 3.6V/cell from time to time for passive cell balancing?

If it is advisable, how often? Once a week? Once a month?

(As an aside, would it be reasonable to assume that the majority of solar LFP batteries use passive cell balancing?)

Additionally, you could also check with the battery manufacture to see what charge profile they recommend for your particular battery.

It depends on the BMS being used and how it is configured.

When the BMS cell balancing starts to activate. And of course the type of balancing used. (Passive or active)

For example pylons start to balance at 90% SOC.

How often depends on the cycling and energy in and out. And for course the cells themselves.

And I have a mix of active and passive balancing. But most manufacturers on the market have passive. This usually affects length of the absorption phase though. Not so much the voltage of the cells when they are being balanced.
