Can Autotransformer be used to create single phase 240v from a shore power source providing US split phase 240?

I am looking to be able to use US two-pole 240 to charge my house battery via autotransformer and multiplus 120/3000/24. In lieu of stacking two multiplus units, can I use autotransformer to accept the two pole 240 and transform it into single pole 240? I would then likley connect a traditional step down transformer in order to step down the single pole 240 to 120, which can then be fed into my Multiplus to charge the battery.

Just use one leg of the split phase source. N to L1 or N to L2 will give you 120V, with no transformers needed.
