Change Multiplus 48 3000 35 for 48 5000 70

Thinking of upgrading my multiplus 48 3000 35 for a multiplus 48 5000 70. To get better charging and discharging would there be any other benefits?

If you don't need the bigger inverter, might be better to just add a separate charger.

Another alternative is to add a second similar multiplus, rather than chuck the older one out, but check with the dealer that your current multiplus is compatible with the new ones.

There might be benefits or disadvantages in efficiency - that depends heavily on your use-case.

The standby-consumption of the 5kVA is higher but the efficiency for both units is best in a „mid-load“ situation. If the 3kVA runs under full load it‘s probably more efficient to use a 5kVA in partial load. If the usage of the 3kVA is already low, the efficiency of the bigger 5kVA will be even worse.

In case you upgrade from an old MultiPlus (1) the efficiency of the MultiPlus II is better and there are additional anti-islanding / extended grid-codes features.

P.S.: The efficiency curves are somewhere here on the victron-community …
