smartblue 250/100 ve.direct

Hi All, I recently purchase smartblue 250/100 ve.can. I connected to ve.direct port tryig to get some info with text output. I set my RS232 to 19200/8bits. I got strange HEX output on burst of ~ 1800 bytes. Here is a sample ouput:

Yeah, I had look into the document. It would be great to tell me what is the protocol. Is it ve.direct (Text or Hex) or something else. Your help is really appreciated since I am bit lost

You may like to describe in more detail the exact set up you have, detailing the electrical connection you have from the charge controller to what I guess is a computer of sorts. Also, describe the computer, what operating system and what program are you using to get the above data, as it is all important other wise people can only guess at what you have.

The SmartBlue solar controller does not have a RS232 interface, it does have a TTL async port for the VE.Direct interface. Not much these days uses an actual RS232 interface, except for equipment we use in the industrial automation world.

From my reading and experimenting, the VE.Direct port from devices like the SmartBlue solar controller put out a ASCII text data stream, updating about every one second.

It is possible to place the device into, what Victron call HEX mode, where the text data stream will stop and then the device will communicate using the HEX mode, for a while at least. The only method that I know with putting the device into HEX mode is to issue a specific command to the device.

The Victron ConnectApp I assume uses this HEX protocol, as it communicated bidirectionally unlike the simple ASCII text stream which as far as I understand is only one way, the device is always listening, but specific to the HEX mode only.

Have you used the Victron ConnectApp to check the communications ?
