Direct cable link between House and starter battery negative posts.

Apologies if this is a dumb question, but is there any reason not to directly link the two battery negative posts with a short cable rather than linking through busbars as shown on the various Victron circuit diagrams.

I ask because my batteries are co-located and it would just be simpler.

It depends if you have a shunt monitoring the domestic batteries, if you have a shunt doing this and connect the starter negative direct to the domestic negative then your starter motor current and starter battery charging current will be counted. In this case, the start to domestic battery link is taken from the bus bar.
