I am trying to measure Ac current usage using ve.direct output using a esp32 microprocessor. can the ET112 connect to the venus gx device and could I plug in a ve.direct cable into the gx device and read the AC_OUT_I label ?

The VE.Direct interfaces are receivers not sources of data. You cannot read data out of the VE.Direct interfaces of the CerboGX.
You can read data out with MQTT or Modbus TCP. Sorry, no serial streams for connecting to ESP32
