Can I use a Victron Battery Protect to Cut solar input on my motorhome when the engine is running?

The reason for my question above is because I have a 50amp DC-DC charger however with the engine running and solar connected it will only charge at 25amps. Im therefore looking for a way of cutting the solar power input when the vehicle engine is running. This way I will get the full 50amps of charge.

Current is suppused to run in one direction through the battery protect. If its oriented in a way that its protecting the battery (the intended way), charging back through the protector is not recommended.

Turning it around and only using it as a fancy relay to cut solar would be possible, but then it wouldnt protext the battery anymore. See handbook regarding that issue: https://www.victronenergy.de/upload/documents/Manual-Battery-Protect-12V-24V-65-A-100-A--220-A-EN-NL-FR-SV-DE-PT-ES-TR-IT.pdf

By far the simplest solution would be a manual switch. Other than that one could use smart relais (if there are inverted ones) or a Venus device (Cerbo) with node red. That really depends on the system you are running.

What charge controller are you using?

Hi. Thanks for your reply. Im using a Renogy MPPT & DC-DC charger.

I have given the battery protect a try as a fancy relay but had no result. I either get an under voltage error or a short circuit error. Plus I don't believe there is any way to switch it via a 12v supply. I have ordered a standard 24v automotive 5 pin relay so will give that a try next. I only have a single 100w solar panel so I should be okay for the voltage and current. Failing that I will simply have to fit a manual cut off switch in an appropriate location and try and remember to switch it off when driving.
