Connection lost between BM712 and Venus (on Raspberry Pi 3b+)

Hi there,

After a successful installation of Venus OS on a Raspberry Pi 3b+, I managed to configure the Remote Console, link it to VRM, and view the live data streamed. All worked OK...for a while: after more or less a couple of hours, I noticed that I was not getting updated data from the Battery Monitor. It seems that the issue is the connection between the gateway and the BM - see screenshot below:

Rebooting solved the issue...for a while. After another hour I had the same issue again. See below (three reboots):

In my current set-up, I only have a BMV712smart connected to the VRM. The Pi is connected to the router via network wire. The BM is of course plugged in to the Pi via USB.

Below please find more screenshots of the Remote Control.

Thanks for your help and guidance, I did a research but couldn't find any thread on this specific topic.

Firmware up to date on the BMV?

Looks more like a physical connection problem. try a different usb port?

All firmware is up to date (forgot to mention it in my original post).

If it was a USB issue, why a reboot should solve it?

@Flavio DiM I have just started having the exact same problem with my raspberry pi and bmv712. My smartsolar 150/100 stays connected perfectly fine, but the bmv drops out sometimes daily but other times hourly, the strange thing is its been totally fine for the last 3 months, but about a week ago this exact issue started for me, and seems to be getting worse. Did anyone find a solution to this? I have a spare ve direct cable and spare raspberry pi if needed but i feel its not hardware related.

My raspberry pi is totally dc powered so it doesnt lose power ever, so i dont think it would be corruption from unexpected power loss. Any help is much appreciated thankyou!

Hello, in my case it was a hardware issue: I was using a non-genuine cable which most likely was creating the issue.

I wondered if i was maybe having the same issue so i tried a known good cable from my mppt and put the bmv cable on the mppt and its still the bmv that always drops out, so its definitely not the cable, i just hope its not the bmv712 itself, i really dont want to have to send it back for warranty.. i do have a spare bmv and also a spare pi that ill try one at a time and see if it sorts itself out. The bmv is the last resort
