Lithium Battery Level and Solar

Hello,

We have 1200aH of Victron Smart Lithium batteries in the house bank of our sailboat. We have 700W of Solar. We would like the system (Cerbo GX, BMS, 2 Victron MPPT Controllers, 2 Multipass Charger/Inverters) to maintain our batteries (while at the dock on shore power) in the following manner.

Maintain batteries at a certain level say 60% (rather than 100% while at the dock plugged in)

Use Solar primarily to maintain the bank and switch to Shore Power only when Solar is not keeping the batteries at a specified level.

Is this possible? What is happening now... is that the batteries (while at dock) are always at 100% and the MPPT controllers scale the power back during the day and go to Shore Power to maintain the float even though there is still plenty of sun... Is there a way to accomplish these two things? It would be nice to have a setting for this that you could flip off to get the bank fully charged a few hours before leaving the dock... but keep this setting for maintaining the bank for the most longevity. While cruising it is not an issue as there is not shore power.

Thanks,

Tony

Hello Tony,

Yes, this is possible. Believe there are different ways to do this with the Victron equipment that you have already. The Multi can be programmed to ignore the AC input based on a condition. You also have a relay contact in the Battery monitor, you do not mention that you have one, but I assume you do. This relay can also switch on a condition.

Search for Virtual Switch option in the Multi, you will find an explanation about this.

best regards, Rob
