ET112 connected to OctoGX via RS485

Hi community,

I've connected one ET112 to the RS485 port of the OctoGX. But on the console in the section "Energy Meters" nothing appears. So my question is, should that work? I'm asking because I've nowehere found any manual how to connect an ET112 to the native RS485 port of the OctoGX.

Thanks!

Hi all,

In the end it's now clear my Octo GX has some issue on the native RS485.

Hi Matthias, look like I never came back on my promise? My apologies!

In case you’re fairly certain, then send the unit in for check/repair (might be they just get you a new one under warranty).

This process goes via your dealer.

all the best, Matthijs

Hi @Matthias Roetzer. What cable are you using? Standard RJ45 between both?

Well I used the screw terminals of the ET112 to the plug-in contacts of the OctoGX. cable length is about 20cm, so no need for termination nor shielding nor twisted pair.

I have not done or tried this personally, but only wonder if receive and transmit should be swapped around? Silly question, but you have power on the ET112 and the neutral connected?

Well of course, 230VAC is connected (P / N) and power LED is on!

If you refer to RS485 cabling, its obviously A to A and B to B as it is a BUS.

Cabling of RS232 would be cabling RX-TX and TX-RX but thats different story!

Above suggests it works with the CGX so it could be the RS485 Octo chipset is not the ftdi one which is recommended although it will be hard to believe. As your firmware is likely also up to date, I think the Victron staff will be best placed to answer this.

Hi @mvader (Victron Energy)

Looks like I'm having lot's of uggly not community answerable questions :)

ET112 or ET340 at native RS485 port of Octo GX, should that work or not?

Thanks in advance!

Best regards,
