VE.Can RJ45 Terminator Included with Venus GX

Hi,

What are the two VE.Can RJ45 Terminators included with the Venus GX for? They appear to be wired as a jumper? I've searched online but can't seem to find an answer? Just that they're for sale in various places but nowhere says what they're used for?

Hi @martyn,

The VE.Can RJ45 Terminators contain a resistor to help prevent an internal reflection signal from adding noise to the bus.

One is added at the farthest ends of the VE.Can device connections, typically the GX device, and the last VE.Can device in the string.

They improve reliability, especially over long distances, and should be used in all cases.

There is a little bit more documentation in the Victron Communications Whitepaper:

Q16: Do I need to terminate the canbus? Yes you do. Use one 120Ohm 0,25W 5% resistor at both ends of the canbus. Connect it between CAN-H and CAN-L. Victron Energy sells a set of VE.Can terminators with part number ASS030700000.

And in Section 1.4.3 of the CCGX Manual.

If you would like to go even deeper into the electrical engineering, here is a good start...
