self heating battery MultiPlus Compact

Hello

Have problem with self heating battery, charging not start when in "heating" mode ,think problem is ,in heating mode battery resistance jumping , Smart Shunt show V jumps.

My settings is Absorption 14,4V Float 13,8V

V jumps is more then 14,4 V in my case and this prevent start of charging.

Have MultiPlus Compact 12/1600/70-16 and MPPT-278 connected to self heating Battery.

Interestingly previously have Phoenix Smart 50A charger, this charger start charge self heating Battery without problem, heating phase 10A , later charging with 50 A.

Probable there is some average calculation for V in charger.

Maybe some of Victron staff can help.

What battery do you have?

What temp is the battery?

What is the batt volts?

Has the batt BMS shut down due to low temp/low volts?

Probable, but there must be way how to fix this,Phoenix Smart 50A start charge,MultiPlus Compact 12/1600/70-16 not start.

MultiPlus Compact 12/1600/70-16 not start.

You are going to have to give more information.

The multi wont turn on? Wont charge? Starts charging, then cuts out?

Details, batt voltage and temp? Charge current settings? Charge current reached before problem happens?

Lots of details.

Multi wont start charge, on Smart Shunt see V jumping from 12 to 15V, this happening when battery is cold, now when in system Phoenix Smart 50A added , charging start also when battery temp is below 0.

There is different settings in Phoenix Smart 50A and in MultiPlus Compact for how they start drawing current.

Multi wont start charge, on Smart Shunt see V jumping from 12 to 15V, this happening when battery is cold,

As per video, when the battery BMS is cold, it disables charge. When cold the BMS first engages the heater to warm the battery enough, so that then charging is re-enabled. The heater will draw about 6a.

The voltage jumping from 12 to 15v is probably due to the BMS disconnecting.

now when in system Phoenix Smart 50A added , charging start also when battery temp is below 0.

The Phoenix is a different charger, and more likely tolerant to being throttled down to the 6a heater current.

You could use the Phoenix to initially heat the battery, then change over to the Multi.

Or perhaps limit the Multi charge current to 10a until the batt is warm enough to accept charge. Might not work.

The problem lies with your batts BMS, it appears to disable charge, at the same temp as the heaters engage. Quirky indeed.

Question is ,how to configure "tolerance" similar to Phoenix Smart 50A on MultiPlus.

Now have 2x expensive chargers ,because most expensive charger (MultiPlus) is too smart. :)
