Andrew asked

Multiplus Inverter/Charger 3RU/4RU Design?

Hi Victron,

Andy from Master Instruments here in Australia.

I wanted to ask if there is any thought in possibly looking at producing a 3RU/4RU rack mount Inverter/Charger option at all in the future?

Below is an example which is being implemented in traffic light UPS systems.

Looking forward to a response and thank you for your time.

Although I agree that there isn't much demand for rack mounted equipment yet, I think a rack mounted multiplus would be excellent and more sensible now that we have a bunch of rack form factor lithium batteries (Pylontech, Dyness etc.) I'd personally love to see this.

There just doesn't seem to be a demand for rack mounted equipment in the solar industry. A lot of installations in homes a vehicles require wall mounting.

I do like the idea of rack mounted equipment and I have made one for myself.

I am also building another one for a friend.

Others have also built rack mounts systems for themselves. See the blog for Markus' home system:
https://www.victronenergy.com/blog/2021/03/02/victron-training-in-a-cabinet-ess-off-grid-3phase/

So, although not natively rack mounted, it is possible to rack mount this equipment.

@WKirby could you please post a "save settings" .vcsf file from VictronConnect for the Multi RS Solar? I'm interested to try to load it in VictronConnect to see what features and settings are available for this product. It's not available in the Demo Library. Thanks!

As far as I know there is something in development but it is to early to talk about details in public.

Thank you for the replies. Nice looking install Wkirby.

As a one off this could be achieved as you have done but when looking at installing high quantities, a simple plug and play solution rather than a custom install would be ideal. These would mainly be used in industrial applications rather than marine/auto industry.

Hopefully this is something to consider in future at least, solar can definitely still be implemented if/when required.

Andrew, I have worked on a large number of Alpha units in South Australia in TS and ITS configurations... Very keen to try out a victron rack mounted unit as a trial....

Hi Nick,

I am sure there will be a few systems that installers will be wanting to incorporate this on as I have been asked numerous times. At the moment there is no release but just stated early 2024. Hopefully in the next 3-6 months will here some updates on it.

I definitely think Victron should make rack-mounted equipment. Specially for telecom (data centers, CATV, etc.)

Currently, not many manufacturers have solar charge controllers for rectifier plants for telecom. Huawei, Vertiv and Eaton are some, but they’re not as scalable as Victron is.

Telco standards are quite steep. Inverters like Victron are unlikely to satisfy the UPS requirements.
