How does Multiplus II w/Cerbo ESS prevent AC backfeeding?

I'm trying to better understand ESS. If my Multiplus II has both AC IN and AC OUT running through main service panel (currently with breaker inter-locks) and I add a Cerbo GX and install ESS, can I close both AC IN and OUT circuits on the breaker panel allowing AC OUT to flow back to the panel can I setup ESS to backfeed when AC is present from the mains? I'm not grid-tied in the sense I want to intentionally backfeed the mains. (No metering). In essence, I want ESS to to prioritize PV power first, supplement with AC when AC is present and then supplement with batteries is no AC main is present. I'm hung up on whether or not I need an Automatic transfer switch between the inverter and the Main AC or whether or not the Multiplus with Cerbo GX running ESS acts as a transfer switch. Any thoughts or ideas are appreciated.

Thanks, I've looked at this, and several other posts and manuals as well as wiring diagrams. Still a bit confused, can you expand on the question?
