Does victron recomend the use of guimods with cerbo gx

I would not say recommend. But all Victron stuff on the GX ranges are open source.

It is quite easy to reset to factory.

And there is a modification space on github and a modification forum here for those who like to experiment. The user Kevin Windrem and quite a few other do alot of that. For example.

So feel free if you would like to join in.
