Even 2V is high, what is causing this?

Is the inverter very far from the batteries with tiny wires?

Exactly what I was thinking.

Plus he mentions the inverter is currently off, so what's generating a 2v ripple with the AC/DC source off?

Do you have some other charger(s) on the system?

How did you "correct" for the 4v ripple? Which BTW is... wow :)

Best bet is to disconnect as many "extra" components as possible and work backward from the inverter and battery being the only two objects connected together, with confirmed good solid sufficiently sized wiring, and then start adding bits and pieces.
