I have a generator with a smart controller which gives me my fuel tank level. My question is would I be able to connect that to the Colour Control GX directly or would I need a sensor?

CCGX does not have any native tank sensor inputs.
A GX Tank 140 device could be used to allow the connection of certain tank senders.

BUT....
Without any clue as to how your existing sensor works, it's difficult to say for sure if it will work with the GX Tank 140 at all, so it's likely that another separate sensor would need to be used.
