I connected the charger to the bare battery terminals of my car. I followed the instructions for the order of connection carefully: red terminal, black terminal, power cable. I pressed the "mode" button once, but I cannot switch to mode 1.

A test on the 12 V battery of another vehicle gives the same result: always "standby".

Perhaps there is a fault, I would suggest to take it to your dealer for them to assess and potentially a warranty replacement.
