Hello all,
what fuse should be used to protect the 48V input of a Multiplus 2? Can it be a Megafuse 125A 58V in a Victron Lynx distributor or does it have to be an NH00 fuse?

Remember that the fuse protects the cables, it does not protect the equipment.
A 200A fuse is recommended for MPII 48/5000/70 along with 70mm² battery cables for short runs. A 200A 58V Mega fuse would be great.

Would there be any disadvantages in using a 125A Mega fuse with a 25mm2 or 35mm2 cable instead of the 200A fuse with a 70mm2 cable?
In normal operation the Multiplus never draws more than 4000 watts, which is about 80A plus maybe 15% for losses.
That cable is too small, you'll experience a multitude of unwanted or confusing events. DC ripple would be most likely. This is when the DC Voltage right at the terminals of the MultiPlus is not stable due to excessive Voltage drop over the cables. The MultiPlus won't be able to cope with high startup currents that some appliances may present to output of the MultiPlus. The MultiPlus can supply peak demands of 9KW for short periods of time.
It's a false economy to use under rated cables and throttle the performance of your MultiPlus and very likely cause problems for yourself down the road.
