2x Skylla TG 24v 100's paralleled?

We have 2x 24v500 banks, and we are putting 2x Skylla TG 24v 100's. Can these be paralleled, and how? Also, do we need diodes? Or a GX device? Appreciate your help.

Hi @WJF

To give an answer on this, more information is needed. 'we have two banks and two chargers' is not something anyone can give an answer on.

Please describe the system, what kind of banks, what else is connected, distance between banks, what kind of system, etc. etc.

@Daniël Boekel (Victron Energy Staff) Thanks. We have 2V 500ah cells set in two 24v 500 strings. Total system of 1000ah @ 24v. We have got 1x Skylla TG 24-100 on each string. We are wanting to monitor via a Venus GX device, which I have touched base with Chris who said we would need to have 2x BMV702, which each one would be connected to each 24-100 TG charger via a RJ12 port?? Then use a VE direct cable from the BMV to Venus GX.

Then we are wanting to monitor the data, and auto start/stop a generator. There is no internet at the site, so we were considering a GX LTE 4G?? Would this be how you do it?

Appreciate your help. Let me know if you need more info

Banks are next door to each other, comms site running telemetry/ scada etc.

Hi @WJF

I think you should get an experienced installer to help you with this.

Are these battery banks used together? what are the loads, are both banks connected or not...

if used separately, best to use two Cerbo's so generator start/stop logic works for each bank separately.

If both connected, then one BMV should do the trick, and one Cerbo, etc.

If you use one Cerbo, the GX LTE 4G (plus data-sim) is perfect. If using two Cerbo's, better use a 4G router so both can be connected to the same router.

BMV is not connected to the Skylla, BMV display connects to it's Shunt with rj12, and connects to Cerbo with ve.direct cable. Skylla cannot communicaty with Cerbo (only the Skylla-i / ip6x connect, through ve.CAN)

So sorry, not a simple answer, because you don't give enough information.

you can parallel as many chargers as you like in parallel, just keep adding them . which ever one has its set point higher than the other this one will charge more thats all, its quite hard to get them all set at exactly the same voltage, so dont worry about one doing more work than the others when needed they will all supply power up to there max outputs based on there own absorption settings and absorption times.

Thanks @Paul B legend!! Will we need to run diodes? Can we also connect to a venus GX device (maybe with a BVM??) so we can pull data and also auto start/stop generator?

No diodes are not need as long as its one battery bank.

yes you can connect a BMV and a GX device and use the autostart features based on voltage . if you have a multiplus or a quattro inverter charger this helps as well

you should also look at your options as a Inverter charger costing is not a lot diferant cost wise to the chargers, and depending on size there charge rates can be higher. and you get more info on the gx device as well

@Paul B thanks. Yes, we have 2x 24v 500 banks. So picking we will need the diodes? Anything from Victron you can recommend? Thanks for the heads up on the inverter chargers...

its not a cut and dried answer, its how they are configured within the system

if they are always paralleled, then no diode needed, if not then connect one charger to one bank and the other to the other bank, then turn parallel off and on as needed, its also not wise to parallel a flat or discharged bank to a full bank otherwise high current could flow from the full battery to the lower batty until they are again equal.

its upto you as to how you do these connections
