Battery cable length in manual, one way or return?

In reading the manuals for inverter /chargers, it isn't clear whether the lengths in the table is one way or total cable length,

Also the Victron toolkit, the cable length automatically calculates return cable lengths as per

https://community.victronenergy.com/questions/21208/victron-toolkit-cable-call-what-does-length-mean.html

This is in

https://www.victronenergy.com/upload/documents/Quattro-system-example-5KW-24V-230V-AC.pdf

0-5 m cable length: 4 x 50SQmm 5-10 m cable length: 4 x 95SQmm Cable length stands for the distance between the battery connections and the Quattro connections !!! Recommendations are without other loads in the system and these also should be taken into account for proper main battery, main fuse & main switch cables !!!

I read that statement as a one way distance, it would be helpful if the manual was a little clearer in this respect. a 2.5 M run from battery post to inverter is very challenging in a marine installation... so I am just wanting some clarifications on these recommendations

I read the 0-5m and 5-10m as return distances.

As the converse would be a rather huge voltage drop when the inverters perform at their peak power.

Having used 50mm2 cabling on >5m return length on a 5kVA MPII, we have seen DC Ripples on two sites already. Shorting the return length on 50mm2 to <3m solved the problem instantly.
