CCGX does not connect to Simrad NSS9 EVO2

Hi, connection of CCGX to Simrad mfd NSS9 EVO2 does not work. On the Simrad it keeps telling MQTT setting should be adjusted. On the CCGX 2.42 version, there is a different screen wirh two MQTT setting, which one is correct? Pressing home tries to connect, but no result. Cables were tested. Simrad is on latest 18.3 firmware. Should LAN be on? Should start op on VRM be on? Tried all combinations, leds are flickering but no connection. Checked Simrad, rader is working thrue the NEP-2 internet bus on Simrad, Tried direct connection without NEP-2 and different cable, no succes. Tried manual restarting to secure setting, no succes. Any suggestions?

Hi Mathijs,

Sorry to hear its not working straight out of the box as supposed and as we want it to.

The MQTT type required is MQTT (plaintext), though youโ€™ll need to enable the other one (SSL) as well to get to the plaintext one.

Here is something to try: connect a laptop, and in a browser navigate to http://[ip address of your gx device]/app - if you can't find the IP address of your GX, you could also try http://venus.local/app

the same page as you see on the simrad will load; and then either fully working, or just as on the simrad, with the mqtt error message.

Please let me know the result, it helps to see where the problem lies. Thank you.

Dear @mvader (Victron Energy Staff),

I tried the laptop, In the menu ยดconsole op afstandยด I put LAN at 'on' en VRM at 'on' and rebooted. With both MQTT settings at 'on', it connected to the laptop! Great result!

With these setting, the same internet cable, and the tested adaptor for the Simrad (was working at George Kniest in the Netherlands) I tried again with the Simrad, However, it kept telling to put MQTT settings on.

One step ahead, but no result on the Simrad. At least, the settings on the CCGX are tested and working. Hope you may have some other suggestions.

Hi @mathijs van gool, today we released v2.51, which fixes a bug in relation to Simrads which I expect fixes your issue too.

More information here:
https://www.victronenergy.com/blog/2020/03/02/venus-os-v2-51-various-small-improvements/

I hope that sorts it!

Hello @mvader (Victron Energy Staff)

I tried but it did not work. I uploaded the 2.52 and the CCGX worked fine with this firmware.

In ยดConsole on distanceยด, Lan is on and VRM is on.

On the VRM portal, two way VRM is on.

At Services I see the new field with the two MQTT settings and the VRM two way has been moved to the VRM portal chapter. So, the effect of the 2.52 is clear in this field.

Then I connect the Simrad through plugging in the ethernet wire. After a few seconds, the Victron App appears on the Simrad screen. Pressing the app gives an old Victron MQTT service setting screen (version were NMea2000 is mentioned). Pressing home, it tries to connect, but it returns to the (old) services setting attention screen.

In this Q&A I also read the the newer EVO3 encountered the same problem. Maybe the app send out to the Simrad is an old version that does not reconise the right MQTT settings? Just speculating, this is outside my knowledge....

Hope you may have some further suggestions?

Hi Mathijs, thank you testing this so quickly. (And frustrating that we canโ€™t reproduce this ourselves in R&D).

weโ€™ll contact you by email to further troubleshoot.

Best regards, Matthijs

Did we ever find a solution to this. I'm running into the same problem connecting cerbo gx to simrad evo3. When app is pressed blank white screen shows up. When connected with laptop same cable it seems to work fine. Running 2.85 in cerbo and 19.2 in simrad. Does simrad update to 20.2 fix this?

@mathijs van gool, when you have your latop in your LAN are you able to ping both the CCGX and your SIMRAD?
I believe your SIMRAD display is the DHCP server in your LAN.

Hi,

I have connected the laptop, simrad NSS9 EVO2 and the victron CCGX to a switch. I can ping all devices.

Simrad 169.254.118.174

CCGX 169.254.6.224

laptop 169.254.74.203

Laptop:

Http://169.254.6.224 works great from the laptop.

https://169.254.6.224 does not work from laptop.

Simrad:

I get the icon at the simrad display, but the alert activate MQTT setting. The Victron is also not appearing on the connected device-list on the Simrad.

But both the MQTT LAN (SSL) and MQTT LAN (plain text) are activated in the settings of the CCGX.

I understand also the Simrad EVO3 is not working. Than all the integration between Victron CCGX and Simrad NSS MFD devices may not work, maybe a larger issue.....

Maybe there is something with the MQTT protocol, maybe there is something on the SIMRAD firmware updates to latest versions. Had an IT specialist to sort the pinging out, but however no break through. Is it possible you contact Simrad and test on their new firmware?

Look forward to further suggestions, cheers Mathijs

@mathijs van gool, I just found this page:

Your NSS9 EVO2 display is not on this list. I have no idea why.

Dear Rob,

Thank you, this was known from the start, but the form also indicates that NSS EVO2 should work in princple, as off course, the EVO3, which does not seem to work either.

With a IT specialist, we assume the CCGX sends the MQTT protocol on the ethernet port as the laptop is working fine. Not being a specialist, I learned that on the Simrad a port should be open to receive the MQTT protocol. Maybe Simrad closed the port in the new firmware of the EVO2 (version 18.3) and the EVO 3 (version 19.2)????

I can buy an EVO3 but when I run in the same issue, its a waste of time and money. Maybe, also for the EVO3, can you check with Simrad the port for the MQTT data protocol is still open? An other sollution could be to set the Simrad back to an older firmware version were the Victron mfd integration was working?

cheers, mathijs
