I have a similar situation and found that this powered USB hub works with the Venus GX connecting 5 MPPT's - 2 via ve.direct and the other 3 USB. 4 Port Black USB 2.0 Hub - USB-A Hubs | USB Hubs | StarTech.com United Kingdom

I’d like to keep clear of a powered solution. Has anyone tried a simple y splitter?

I use a Y splitter OK connecting a USB GPS and a USB Bluetooth but have no experience with a VE Direct to USB connection.

Unpowered hubs work, as long as you don't put much power load on the usb port.

You may buy the VE.CAN version (and use network-cables)

I didn’t see this as an option. Is this available in the small 100/20 models?

No. Only larger MPPT's have both CAN and vedirect.
