Is it possible to remove the plugable display fitted to our MPPT control and use a RS232 Male/Female lead to extend the display so it can be mounted in a more convenient place?
Is there any restriction on length of cable?

Yes this will work but is not supported. We have tested it with the standard 1.8m cable and that works. You can try it in your application to see if it works. We don't give any advice about possible cable lengths
