For years I have had a simple node.js script running to request data from the colour control gx via mqtt. A few days, this became unstable. It randomly stops getting mqtt messages. Has there been some sort of change recently that could affect this?

Yes, there was a firmware update on February 13 and since then you are not the only one who is complaining about MQTT...
