I wish to place a switch between B+ and Pin H to turn on charging as needed but turn off when not.

If I remember correctly that is something that can be programmed based on input voltage, unless you want to have the option of turning charging off even when engine is running?
Yes, B+ to the H terminal will switch the Orion on. Remove the existing bridge between the H and L.
