3 phase Quattro 48/8000 with Generator & ESS

According to the ESS Design manual it is possible to connect a generator and the grid to the quattro.


The Victron ESS Assistant is able to feed back power to the grid. I´m concerned if there will be a feed back via the AC-in 1 (Generator). If yes, the Generator could be destroyed.


Am I wrong or is this problem solved by the software ?


"4.5.1. Settings -> System setup -> AC Input types Set the AC Input type to Generator when connected to a generator. The system will then enable generator-charging and correctly load the generator when running. Note that we recommend wiring the Generator to AC-in 1, and the Grid to AC-in 2. The reason is that the Quattro will then prioritize the Generator over the Grid. That arrangement offers maximum flexibility (allowing forced generator intervention even when the grid is available) and maximises control. "

We have a setup like you are proposing with the exception that they are 15kva not 8.

Feedback to the generator is not an issue we have. Usually when the generator is running it is because there is charging needed or load assist needed so it is always pulling from the generator otherwise it is not just running.

Are you wanting to enable feedback at all for the grid specifically at all?

When the AC input type is set to Generator, feed-in (reverse power) is not allowed. This is part of the functioning of the ESS on Cerbo GX.

When I select as AC input the Generator and we start the generator the rcd is turning off.

We think that the Quattro is feeding in Energy because of the ess assistant.

The RCD usually trips due to an imbalance in the current flowing through the neutral and live. Where is the RCD located, downstream of the inverter or upstream just after the generator?
