I have a victron solar controller and can calculate the total energy used. However when I need to charge the victron mains controller always reports a much higher energy input. I expect losses but not 30%

What components do you have exactly?
Are all loads connected to the MPPT or are some loads at the battery maybe?
Are you also calculating the useage with losses and the charging with losses? Lower voltage systems like 12v and 24v have quite high loses.
with lead batteries, losses can be 30 - 40 %.
