Smart Solar MPPT 100/50 Max charge current

I have a Smart Solar MPPT 100/50. My solar panels ultimately generate more amps than I want sent to the battery bank from the MPPT at this time. the reason for this is the current wire gauge on both sides of the MPPT. I will be replacing wiring soon. But in the meantime can I just set the MPPT “Max Charge Current“ lower. In my senario it would be set to 20. i played with the setting and it appears to limit what’s coming from the solar panel side ultimately reducing the amps sent to the battery bank. Will this hurt or damage the Smart Solar 100/50?
