Multi Plus II 48/3000 Fuse AC-IN for on grid topology

Hi !

I'm planning the installation for my Multi Plus II 48/3000 on grid ESS (zero feed in).

The Multi Plus II is only connected with the AC-IN terminals to the grid. The two outputs (OUT1 & OUT2) will not be used.

What is the recommeded fuse on AC-IN?

From my understanding in that case max. 3000kW will flow through the wires which leads me to the assumption that 16A are sufficient.

Please give me advice.

Hi @deichel

That model Multi is specced to handle up to 32A. At 230V that's way more than 3000W. But if you won't use that much and wish to break it at a lower level, then that's up to you.

Your AC OUT ports I don't understand..

Hi !

I'm not using the OUT ports of the Multi Plus II.

As I understood from the manual it is clear that the MP is specified for 32A at AC IN because it is also specified for 32A feed through (to OUT1/2).

I'm using it as ESS and therefore it it specified at 3000VA for the inverter, so I'm assuming the 16A circuit breaker is sufficient or am I wrong?

Ah, ok. Yes, 16A would do.

@deichel theoretically AC IN can also be used to charge your batteries in ESS mode. So you need to go to Settings -> MultiPlus-II 48/3000/35-32 ans set the Input power (3rd point from the top) also to 16A! Otherwise it will kill your 16A fuse if there's any scenario where you use the AC-DC Charger in the Multiplus to charge your batteries:

Dirk, this is a system exactly configured as you propose. It charges at the full 35A DC for almost three hours and never comes close to even to 10A on ACIN. Taking into account some conversion losses, 35A DC translates to about 1700W, which it will pull from the grid at e.g. 230VAC is about 7.5A or 9A max in this system as shown below.

Simple maths for the grid parallel aspect. The inverter basicially tops out at 2400W (3000VA) in parallel as the grid steps in, which means again depending on the AC 220-240 feed expect 10-11A either way although as can be seen below, it never pushes out more than 10A in the real world even when an electric oven is fired up.

In summary, a 16A circuit breaker is more than ample on ACIN for your configuration.
