Stopped working on my Boat - Victron Multiplus 12V 3000VA 120A Inverter Charger - 12/3000

First of all I would like to say I am impressed with the Victron products and I am in the process of fitting my boat out with all Victron products.

My problem. Purchased this a few months ago for my yacht and it worked fine except when charging it would only go to 80 or 90 amps (read through Victron battery monitor) which is a bit of a mystery as it is a 120amp charger. Besides that it has been working fine and have used it probably about 10 to 20 times and for hours at a time as I am charging 5 x 135amp crystal lead acid batteries. A couple of days ago I went on my boat and started the genset to charge the batteries of course and noticed there was not charging (read through Victron battery monitor) and you can see what was happening. So I checked the charge and yes all good 240v from the generator and tested on other appliances and all ok. I disconnected from the batteries tried it again and still no go then dragged it back home and connected to normal power grid and the same thing happened and I could not get it to to. Then I took it to my retailer (who are awesome by the way) and plugged it in and it worked aaaaahhh. They tested it for a couple of days and could not find a problem and adjusted the charge rate for me as well. Thinking it was just maybe a glitch I dragged it back out to the boat and aaahhhhh well look at the video. Now my batteries were down super low and I was getting desperate so I used my Victron 12/25 amp charger which worked fine on the generator but it could not cut it with the 650 amp bank of batteries so I dragged all of my batteries and charger back home and they all charged up fine using both the charges on the mains 240v in the house. My setup I have a Fisher Panda 8kva genset but it is 110v (as my boat was US) and I use a Wallcann 4000W-AU (Step Up Transformer Voltage Converter 120V-240V) As I said before this has all work just fine for a few months and many hours until now. Any suggestions????? https://www.wallcann.com.au/4000w-ste

Hi @TimboEdo

Your Multi is very particular about the ac it will accept. The 'fault' is rarely obvious and may be in the shape of the sinewave/noise or something equally sinister.

There's some workarounds described here: https://www.victronenergy.com/live/multiplus_faq

The 'Weak AC' setting will let virtually anything through, but will heavily limit the A it can handle.

But perhaps a good place to begin serious troubleshooting..
