MPPT 250/85-MC4 shortcut current 30A absolute?

MPPT 250/85-MC4 has 3 (pairs) of MC connectors - I call them 3 ports.


Spec sheet says max 70A from PV, not more than 30A per port.


So if I have just one of the ports connected (others will remain free), but the current is plusminus 30-35A (there is an 5S3P array connected to it), to be on the safe side, I should use a Y cable to connect to two MC4 ports on the MPPT?

Absolutely yes. The 30A is the connector limit, it’s always best to try and distribute it best you can.

Thank you. In Germany the specified limit per connector is 30A with 4mm² and 43A with 6mm² - nevertheless I will distribute the ~30A current on two ports of the MPPT as that is a too close call otherwise.
