What is the fuse for in charge controllers?

This may be a dumb question but I am not asking what fuses do but what is it's exact purpose in the charge controller. (Exactly MPPT 100/20)

Does it protect the charge controller from the Solar Panel from pumping in too many amps (or does the MPPT algorithm handle that) or is it connected to the load and prevent the load from pulling more than 25 amps?

The models with load outputs are equipped with a fuse. It's to offer some protection in case a load goes faulty. The fuse is in the battery circuit, you can see that the battery terminals are next to the fuse.

The MPPT will limit the charge power to the rated level (20A) or lower if configured so.
