48v PV to 12 DC System

Morning,

I've been handed a 225W/48PV Panel, and ideally would like to use it to charge a Victron 12-38, could a Victron MPPT 100/20 be used for it? I appreciate its probably overkill. Its for an environmental sensor going to be left out 24x7x365.

Thanks

John

Yes you need a charge controller on the PV and I believe that Victron one should work.

Depending on the model, 225W panel could produce almost 270W on ideal low temp condition. 270W/12V = 22,5A. So theoretically 100/20 is not enough. But if always in warm temp or otherwise non ideal conditions, it's ok.
