STP vs UTP cable

Can you use a cat 6 STP cable to connect the Cerbo GX to MultiPlus? It would appear a shielded cable would be better in this application. However, a UTP cable is recommended. Which is the best? Will a STP cause problems?

Not an answer, but..

STP RJ-45 plugs have a metal shield that grounds the plug / cable foil shield.

Not sure if the RJ-45 sockets in the multi / cerbo have a contact in them that grounds that shield.

If the sockets does have that contact ^, there is a possibility of a ground loop. Possible smoke / fire (FTP cable / Cerbo / Cerbo neg power wire) should the multi's negative cable be removed from the battery.

If the sockets does not have that contact ^, you might not get any benefit from a shielded cable.

Somebody will know for sure though.

Should work without a problem.

Thanks for the information. I think I will stick with a good quality 24 awg pure copper UTP cat6 cable.

The 8P8C socket connectors on the CerboGX and the MultiPlus are not the shielded type.
Using a STP cable will have no benefit, but it probably won't cause any problems either.
