What thickness of plywood will hold a Multiplus 3000

I have 2 possible places to hang my inverter - one has 1/2" thick plywood and the other has 3/4". The 1/2" panel is attached to the wall of my van so would be more stable. The 3/4" is part of a wheel well box and would need brackets to hold it in place, but I can do that easily.

if you can use bolt and nuts the 1/2" should be good

not so sure about wood screws in a moving van.

Agreed, wood screws into 1/2 in ply not a good idea. Ideally you would spread the load behind the plywood panel, with a wooden batten or at least penny washers. Also use shakeproof washers under the nuts.

If you can't get behind the panel then toggle bolts are another possibility. The wings will spread the load nicely but apply a locking compound to the threads.

I mounted mine directly to plywood, and have had no heat issues, but mine is housed in an open air environment. I’ve seen others use plywood backing with a piece of thin diamond plate sheetmetal over the top. That’s an option if you’re concerned about a fire threat. alaskasworld

Otherwise, you could line that side with something fireproof like hardi-backer, but I don’t think that added mess and weight is warranted. The MP is already spaced off the backing and doesn’t get that hot.

Thanks,
