victron BMV 700 never powers off

Hi....I have the captioned device and it never seems to power off. Is that right? if i turn off the battery switch, the unit still seems to be on. After a few minutes the screen light turns off / dim but the unit stays on and shows 0 watts. Is that normal / right?

Not sure exactly what you are asking...

The BMV does not have an internal power source, nor does it run on air, so it will turn off immediatly if you disconnect power to it.

But, if you have a solar charge controller or an inverter in the system & disconnect the battery only (while the other devices are still conneted to the BMV) it could stay on under the power of the solar charge controller or upto a few minutes as the capacitors in the inverter slowly discharge.

Also, where is the 'battery switch' you mention located in relation to the BMV positive cable? If the BMV positive cable is connected directly to the battery (before the switch) then the BMV will still be powered by the battery, even when the 'battery switch' is off.

In this case you could consider rewiring the BMV positive cable to the switched side of the 'battery switch'. The slight downside to this is that the voltage reading could be slightly off (lower) under high current scenarios (due to voltage drop in the wiring to the switch & within the switch itself).
